Centos 8 OpenVPN
OpenVPN сервер на базе CentOS. В этом конкретном случае CentOS 8. На Stream 8 и Stream 9 еще не перекочевал. Пример конфигов для быстрого поднятия с нуля.
Для начала установка
# yum install epel-release

Генерирование сертификатов для сервера

Клиентские сертификаты и ключи (генерирование):
# cd /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa

client1 - это название для клиента

Создаем пустой список отозванных сертификатов
# ./easyrsa gen-crl
Подпись пакетов с помощью HMAC.  Нужно для защиты самого сервера от DoS атак.

# openvpn --genkey --secret ta.key
Копируем полученные сертификаты
# cp /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/pki/ca.crt /etc/openvpn/ssl/

Генерируем DHparam

Можно подключаться клиентом. Если это линукс, то ложим в /etc/openvpn/client/client1.conf и запускаем
# systemctl start openvpn-client@client1
# systemctl enable openvpn-client@client1
Эти конфиги на сейчас вполне рабочие, т.к. только что поднимались на паре серверов.

Но могут быть разные ошибки с шифрованием.
К примеру:
TLS Error: incoming packet authentication failed from [AF_INET]IP:41945
Authenticate/Decrypt packet error: packet HMAC authentication failed
Или
TLS Error: cannot locate HMAC in incoming packet from [AF_INET]IP:42081
В этом случае проблемы с tls-auth и тем файлом, что был сгенерирован в /etc/openvpn/ssl/ta.key
На сервере должна быть строка в конфиге
tls-auth /etc/openvpn/ssl/ta.key 0
на клиенте тоже самое, но с 1 на конце вместо 0

Если на клиенте указывается не путь, а прямо в тексте конфига , то обязательно должно быть
key-direction 1

При проблемах лучше сразу включить в конфиге verb 6, к примеру, и смотреть лог.
Там будет видно ошибку или несоответствие протоколов шифрования (на сервере может оказаться один набор, а на клиенте другой и они не смогут связаться)

При включенном selinux не будет стартовать по причине отсутствия доступа к /etc/openvpn/client/client1.conf
/sbin/restorecon -v /etc/openvpn/client/client1.conf
